Meaning of the Hall Logo:

The Liberal Education Hall logo is composed of the first letters 'L', 'E', and 'H' from the English name of Liberal Education Hall,and as a whole, it represents the combination plan of buildings V23 and V24.

Meaning of the Hall Mascot:

The mascot represents a harmonious coexistence of happiness, joy, culinary delights, and learning.

Dr Angela Ma Kit Fong（马杰芳）

Warden of Liberal Education Hall

Dr Angela Ma Kit Fong is an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Business and Management at the BNBU. Dr Ma obtained a doctoral degree of Business and Management from the University of Newcastle, Australia, and a Master degree of Business and Management from the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom. Her research interests are in the areas of Technology and Education, Corporate Social Responsibility, Business Ethics and Business Management. Dr Ma has authored a number of related research papers in international academic journals.

Dr Ma's latest publications include a book chapter titled "Using Technology for English-Medium Instruction: The Use of Live Streaming in the Marketing Classroom" in J. Corbett's (Ed.) Springer Multilingual Yearbook 2023, which focuses on teaching with technology in English medium instruction universities in multilingual China. Additionally, she authored a research paper titled "Sustainability in the Technology Industry: Board Attributes, ESG, and Corporate Financial Performance in an Emerging Market," which has been published in an international academic journal. Dr Ma has also presented research papers at international academic conferences. For instance, she presented a paper on "The Relationship of Board Attributes, Corporate Social Responsibility, and Corporate Financial Performance in Chinese Technology-Listed Companies" at the International Conference on Accounting, Auditing, and Finance (ICAAF) held in Perth, Australia.

Prior to joining BNBU, Dr Ma had over 10 years of commercial experience. She then went on to serve at the University of Hong Kong, the Education University of Hong Kong, and the City University of Hong Kong for many years. Dr Ma has a strong passion for teaching and working with students. In her spare time, she enjoys playing badminton. As a former university badminton team representative, she has been participating in many competitions and has received many awards. For instance, she won the championship for ladies' singles and mixed doubles in the BNBU staff competition in 2013 and 2018.

Being the Warden of Liberal Education Hall, Dr Ma believes that a liberal arts education is not just about academic excellence, but it's also about developing yourself as a person. It's about learning to be adaptable, empathetic, and open-minded. These qualities will not only help you succeed academically but also in your personal and professional life. Remember that your potential is limitless, and you can achieve great things if you put your mind to it. Don't be afraid to take risks and try new things. Every experience, whether good or bad, is an opportunity to learn and grow. And remember that success is not just about intelligence or strength, but it's also about persistence and determination. So keep pushing yourself, keep striving for excellence, and never give up on your dreams. In the words of Anne Frank, "You can accomplish anything if you have the courage to try."

Liberal arts education aims to extend beyond academia to equip yourself with the necessary qualities that can enable you to adapt and thrive in the world, understand and communicate with other community members, and have a broadened perspective on the development of knowledge. To be successful, Liberal Education Hall relies heavily on your participation and involvement in the Hall. There is a famous quote from Anne Frank in her book The Diary of a Young Girl, “Everyone has inside of him a piece of good news. The good news is that you don't know how great you can be! How much you can love! What you can accomplish! And what your potential is”. In Liberal Education Hall, being a family member means that continuous effort, not strength or intelligence, is the key to unlocking your potential. You can achieve this by participating as much as possible in the hall activities, making friends, and being an active hall member. Welcome to our family, we have a one-word family rule - participate!

Ms. Jill Juan Liu （刘娟）

Ms. Jill Juan Liu serves as a physical education lecturer in SGE-WPEC, also the coach of BNBU Outdoor Adventure Team.

As an outdoor educator and a firm believer in the transformative power of outdoor experiences, Ms. Jill Juan Liu has a deep passion for fostering experiential learning and personal growth. Her experiences range from leading wilderness expeditions to facilitating leadership development teams in rugged terrains. These adventures not only teach essential outdoor technical skills but also nurture critical life skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and effective communication. Her research interests focus on Outdoor Adventure Education, Outdoor Leadership, Physical Education,

and Experiential Learning.
