Peer Mentor Terms of Service

Peer Mentors need to undergo specific training and selection and to be recruited through a well defined system. With the approval of the Mentor Caring and Academic Advising Programme Committee (MCAAPC), the Students Support Services Team—SSST under SAO provides support and management. The appreciation letters will be presented to the nominated peer mentors recommended by Academic Mentors. Being a peer mentor you should obey the following regulations:

1. Each and every person in BNBU shall be respected, accepted, learn and live together in harmony.

2. Being a role model, peer mentor should always pay attention to words and deeds and obey the school rules and regulations.

3. To organize the MCP Induction Event and Group Activities, the peer mentors must obtain the consent of the Academic Mentor in advance and invite the Academic Mentor to participate in together. To organize the activities, please prepare the emergency plan in advance. Try to invite every mentee.、

4. Organizing group members or accepting suggestions from group members to various entertainment venues (such as KTV, bars), organizing luxury or unhealthy lifestyle activities (such as smoking, drinking), organizing the dangerous activities or organizing activities with religious nature are prohibited.

5. Any commercial deeds or seeking material benefits for individuals are prohibited.

6. Records of peer mentors’ participation in various activities are properly kept by SAO, such as the orientation, the sport day, absence of peer mentors shall be accounted with reasons. 

7. The reimbursement of activities must be approved by the Academic Mentors. Academic Mentors can take the funds in person or authorize the peer mentor(s) to take it. If the peer mentors use the funds without the permission of the Academic Mentor, the reimbursement will not be approved.

8. Being a peer mentor, the enthusiasm and positive attitude are also very important in the term of service.

9. SAO will assign 4 staff members to each faculty or school, responsible for the MCP affairs and the peer mentors can consult or suggest to the corresponding staff.

10.Signing this contract means that the peer mentors construe the terms and conditions as set forth. Any peer mentor contravening this contract will result in the cancellation of the peer mentor qualification and will be reported to SAO depending on the severity of the situation.


UIC Reimbursement Practices

a) Academic Mentors are advised to apply for advance cash or pay the expenses for MCP group activity first. (DON’T forget to get the official receipt for your payment; Please do not ask your peer mentors or mentees to pay except their own share;

b) Complete the  MCP Group  Activity Report  and  the Financial  Claim  Form with  all  necessary receipts related to expenses for this activity. Submit the properly signed report and the claim form to SAO at T4-101; Download Report  and Claim Form template, DON’T forget to sign your name on the back of each of the original receipts)

c) Regarding transactions, on “taxation invoices”, or official receipts, the taxpayer identification number of the University 521000015230002458 must be referred. Photocopies of receipts will not be accepted. All invoices must be attached to the Financial Claim Form. (You can scan the QR Code of UIC and save it on Wechat.)

d) When the staff of SAO gets the reimbursement from the Finance Office, he/she will send an e-mail notification to the person who submitted the claim.

Peer Mentors Recruitment

I. Peer Mentor Recruitment Time

The recruitment for peer mentors takes place every April, with the specific date being communicated via email.

II. Peer Mentor Recruitment Targets
The recruitment is open to first, second, and third-year students. Generally, the recruitment of peer mentors is matched with the number of new students each year.

III. Peer Mentor Recruitment Requirements

1. Basic Application Requirements
(1) First-year students: sGPA ≥ 2.50, second and third-year students: cGPA ≥ 2.50.
(2) No records of discipline violations.

2. Job Requirements
(1) Prepare for the new student welcome before the new students return to school.
(2) During the tenure, one cannot serve as a
resident student tutor, or participate in exchange student programs.

IV. Peer Mentor Training
After registration, preliminary selection, and interviews, the selected peer mentors will undergo training to learn about MCP-related knowledge and the job content of peer mentors. After being hired, they will be trained again before the welcome event for new students.
