The Mentor Caring Programme (MCP) is an important bridge for all students to establish close connections with the college. All current students will be included in the warm family of MCP, which consists of five parts: academic mentors, mentors, faculty coordinator of student affairs, peer mentors (senior students), and students. Academic mentors provide academic and course planning, academic guidance, and other academic related support for freshmen. Mentors focus on daily management, psychological care, and life guidance for students, while peer mentors help freshmen adapt to campus life as soon as possible by sharing their learning and life experiences.
In the 2024-2025 academic year, freshmen were divided into 238 MCP groups, with each group consisting of approximately 6 to 14 freshmen. Academic mentors establish close connections with freshmen through various interactive activities, such as conversations and meals, deepening their understanding and recognition of their majors. This not only enhanced their potential for personal growth but also laid a solid foundation for their new chapter in university.
1. Main Roles and Responsibilities
A. Academic Mentor
Academic Mentors are faculty members who are at the rank of lecturer or above across various faculties, including those from SGE.
Academic Mentors assist first-year students in academic planning, course selection, and offer relevant academic guidance. Their primary goal is to facilitate a smooth transition for freshmen to university learning and to equip them with effective study methods. After freshmen enter their second year, the Academic Mentors will also provide academic care and guidance if students have any needs.
Juniors and seniors are encouraged to consult with the department head, associate head, course instructors, Final Year Project supervisors, or other relevant faculty members, for any academic inquiries.
Every group of freshmen is assigned one or two Academic Mentors. Students are strongly encouraged to take the initiative in scheduling appointments with their Academic Mentors.
B. Mentor
Mentors are selected from teaching assistants and junior lecturers from each faculty, including those from SGE.
Mentors are dedicated to concentrating on the daily lives and personal growth of students, offering them the necessary support and assistance for campus life.
Students are encouraged to reach out to their mentors utilizing the contact details provided by their respective faculties.
C. Faculty Coordinator of Student Affairs
Faculty Coordinators of Student Affairs are professional individuals from various faculties, dedicated to providing unwavering support and assistance to students.
Faculty Coordinators of Student Affairs play a pivotal role in coordinating various student support resources within the faculty. Their primary responsibility is to track special situations and individual cases, with the aim of providing support for students who need special attention.
Should students require assistance from the faculty coordinator, they may establish contact via the faculty office.
D. Peer Mentor
Peer mentors are a dedicated group of students, ranging from sophomores to seniors. They are warmly referred to by the freshmen as "Zu Ba" and "Zu Ma", terms of endearment that underscore their crucial role.
Peer mentors, having once been freshmen themselves, understand the needs and concerns of freshmen. By sharing their learning and life experiences, they cultivate a bond of friendship with the freshmen, helping them smooth their transition into university life.
Each group of freshmen will be assigned one or more dedicated peer mentors, who will
initiate the first contact during the annual orientation activities.

Close Connection: Each role within this new Programme serves as a bridge, fostering unique connections between mentors and peer mentors, ensuring a distinct and enriching experience for all participants.
Smooth Transition: This new Programme is designed to assist freshmen in transitioning seamlessly into college life, setting them off on a new and exciting journey.
Privacy Protection: We put in great efforts to ensure the utmost security of students’ personal information.

Proactive Engagement: We encourage each student to engage actively with Academic Mentors, Mentors, the Faculty Coordinators of Student Affairs, and Peer Mentors. Never hesitate to voice any concerns or queries you might have. Let us endeavor and
evolve together.
Mutual Support: We hope that every student will value the friendship among classmates. Within a nurturing environment of mutual help and shared growth, we can all advance together.
