Introduction

Beijing Normal -Hong Kong Baptist University (hereinafter referred to as BNBU) Interest Clubs are formed voluntarily by full-time students based on their interests. They carry out activities according to their constitution to realize the common wishes of the members.

Currently, BNBU has a total of 59 interest clubs, including Academic (11), Arts & Culture (14), PE & Sports (23), Volunteer Service (5), and Other (6) categories. These clubs are managed by the Student Affairs Office Interest Club Management Committee (SAO-ICMC) and are under the supervision of the Student Affairs Office.

The SAO-ICMC (the Student Affairs Office Interest Club Management Committee) is a service-oriented supervisory organization dedicated to promoting self-management and self-development of interest clubs. It is jointly established by the staff representatives designated by the Student Affairs Office and representatives of student interest clubs, and is jointly governed by student and staff representatives of SAO.

Starting from the practical aspects of interest club management and development, the SAO-ICMC strives to create a better external environment for the clubs and promote their development. It also coordinates with the Campus, relevant external organizations, and groups to provide a healthier environment for the development of interest clubs.

The main functions of the SAO-ICMC include:

  1. Guiding the application and reimbursement processes for the interest clubs;

  2. Participating in interest club management decisions and supporting the clubs' needs in areas such as venues, public  publicity, and fixed assets.

Among these, student representatives would review the actual resource needs and activity feasibility for the interest clubs, as well as the planning of large-scale joint club projects. In addition to supervising the work of the student representatives, Staff representatives are mainly responsible for liaising with the interest club activity reimbursements and approving the clubs' venue and publicity applications.


Basic Philosophy

The purpose of student club activities is to adhere to and implement the educational policies of the Party and the country. We strive to uphold the fundamental orientation of moral education, unite and engage the majority of students, carry out distinctive, healthy, beneficial, and colorful extracurricular activities. Our aim is to cultivate students' sense of social responsibility, innovative spirit, and practical ability, enhance their comprehensive quality, and promote personal growth and talent development.

Organizational Structure

Student interest clubs are categorized into Academic, Arts & Culture, PE & Sports, Volunteer Service, and Other categories. They are managed by the Student Affairs Office - Interest Club Management Committee (SAO-ICMC) and are under the supervision of the Student Affairs Office.


I. Student Affairs Office Interest Club Management Committee (SAO-ICMC)

Introduction to SAO-ICMC

The Student Affairs Office - Interest Club Management Committee (SAO-ICMC) is jointly established by staff representatives designated by the Student Affairs Office and representatives of student interest clubs. The committee consists of 18 members, including 14 representatives from student interest clubs. The composition of the committee is as shown in the following diagram:

Formation of Committee Members

1. Staff Representatives from the Student Affairs Office
Staff Representatives are appointed or delegated by the Student Affairs Office.

2. Student Representatives from Student Interest Clubs
The student representatives from the interest clubs are elected by voting at the Interest Club Meeting. Their selection is then discussed at the committee meeting and submitted to the Chief Student Affairs Officer for final approval.

Each academic year, new student representatives are recommended and decided upon through the above process.

The Change of Committee Members

The term of each Student Affairs Office - Interest Club Management Committee is one academic year. Each term starts from May of each year and ends in April of the following year. After the term of each committee expires, the outgoing committee reports the completion of its term to the Student Affairs Committee Meeting and Student Interest Clubs, and nominates two student chairpersons and four other members for the next term.

In April of each academic year, two student chairpersons and the four other members are selected from the current committee to continue serving in the next term of the SAO-ICMC. At the same time, a recruitment for new student members for the next term is carried out among all students , and unless there are special circumstances, eight positions are available.
